ROCKETTE HISTORY

The Robinson Rockettes were established in 1971 with thirty-two members and made their first appearance at the first Rocket football game. The drill team and band performed at the pregame show at the last Dallas Cowboys Cotton Bowl game. They also marched in the Heart O' Texas and Baylor Homecoming parades and performed at regional basketball games in Denton, TX.

1972-73 - Year 2, forty-two young ladies this year continue to entertain crowds at Rocket football games, in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, and the Baylor Homecoming and HOT Fair and Rodeo Parades. This year, the Drill Team and Band won $500 in the Parade of Champions during the State Fair of Texas. The Rockettes won first place for outstanding performance over all other 2A drill teams at the East Texas State University contest. The Drill Team and Band also traveled to Corpus Christi to participate in Buccaneer Days.

Throughout the rest of the 1970's, the Rockettes were real champions of their time competing in Miss Drill Team USA, Commerce, Nederland, San Marcos State, and Los Angeles National dance competitions. The team upheld their reputation by qualifying and winning the 1975, 1976, and 1978 National Dance Competitions in California. Also along with participating in the Baylor Homecoming Parade and the Heart O' Texas Fair Parade for over ten years, the Rockettes and Band won two non consecutive and six consecutive Parade of Champions for the Texas State Fair. 1974 Marks the first annual Rockette Review where the team produces a dance show to entertain family and friends with all of their dances from competition and much more. During 1975-1976 the Rockettes were selected as the official welcoming group to meet President Gerald Ford, Gov. George Wallace, and Gov. Ronald Reagan when they campaigned in Waco.

For the team, the 1980's were just as successful with pep rally, halftime, competition, and review performances (which included some interesting characters). "Long tall Texans", classy kickers, candy bars, and Pepsi bottles were just some of the objects and characters personified at their annual Rockette Review.
