Update 4-10-2020

Students must have work to earn grades.  If a student does not submit any work at all on any given week for courses, the student will earn an "I" for incomplete at the conclusion of this school year. This would need to be remedied with work/assignments prior to being promoted/earning credit for the course.  Please note that an "I" has implications with UIL participation that would be in place at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.  If you have any questions about your child's grades, please contact your child's teacher or email the campus principal.

What if I wanted my child tested for gifted and talented this spring in RISD?
If we return to school in May, we will continue to take applications and referrals for two weeks and then assess students during the last week of school. If this is unable to occur, we will make plans to assess during the summer, August, or open a window for gifted and talented testing at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.

What about AP Exam(s)?
For each AP subject, there will be two different testing dates. The full exam schedule, specific free-response question types that will be on each AP exam, and additional testing information will be sent out via a Skyward email after we receive an update from the College Board on April 3rd.  Also included with this information will be a Google Form that each AP student will have to complete indicating whether or not they intend to still take the AP exam. Refunds will be issued if a student cancels their test opportunity.

If you still need a device, please email technology by 4 pm today (Wednesday).

What if my child is having issues with Schoology working correctly?
Robinson ISD is aware of the issues with Schoology. The issue is on the company's end. Schoology is one of the top Learning Management Systems (LMS). Many school districts across the country use this system and we are certain they have had many others join during this time of remote learning. This will cause the system to become overloaded. We want to assure you we will take the issues into account for our students' assignments and will make the needed adjustments. If you encounter these issues, please wait a little while and try again. They will have the service restored. Please see the increased demand information that has been posted on the Schoology website at Schoology Message.

Are any Robinson ISD sports facilities open to the public during the closure of schools (gyms, track, playgrounds, tennis courts, batting cages, football field, etc.)?In response to the increasing concerns of COVID-19 across the nation, the City of Robinson, along with other local municipal governments, have declared a “local state of disaster” to more proactively increase preventative measures and require mitigation plans for events in the region.  In light of this, Robinson ISD has closed all facilities to the public until further notice. For more information on the city's declaration, please go to the City of Robinson Issues Disaster Declaration.

Did the Governor issue an executive order that includes statewide closure of all Texas Schools, which causes an extension of the closure of Robinson ISD?
Yes.  Earlier today, Gov. Greg Abbott announced that he has issued an executive order that aligns with the standards set by the president and the Centers for Disease Control. The order, which is effective at midnight Friday, March 20, through midnight Friday, April 3 (and subject to extension) requires:

  • all Texas schools to temporarily close, but offer online or other learning options to students
  • all Texans to avoid gatherings of 10 or more people
  • all bars, restaurants, food courts, and gyms to close

The governor said that this is not a shelter-in-place order. It does not prohibit people from leaving their homes or from traveling domestically. All critical infrastructure will remain open; government entities will still provide essential services.

Have there been any updates from the UIL on extracurricular activities (sports, playoffs, UIL Academics, One Act Play, etc.)?

What if my child needs to graduate and has not met the End of Year (EOC) assessment requirements?

For students who are still working to meet assessment graduation requirements as seniors in the 2019–2020 school year, required performance on academic assessments to graduate under TEC, §28.025(c) and §39.025(a) are being waived for spring 2020. Effectively, this means that current seniors may graduate through the Individual Grade Committee (IGC) process regardless of the number of EOC assessments they still need to pass. Districts will need to determine if a student has met all other graduation requirements under TEC, §28.025(c), including successfully completing curriculum requirements or successfully completing an individualized education program.

If your child needs to graduate via IGC, a high school counselor will contact you and or your child.

Will my child take a STAAR 3-8 Assessment this school year?  What about grade 5 and 8 state required promotion/retention (SSI)?
All State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) administrations scheduled for April, May, and June 2020 are cancelled. Student Success Initiative promotion/retention requirements found in the Texas Education Code (TEC), §28.0211 are waived for the 2019– 2020 school year. Districts will have local discretion on whether students in grades 5 and 8 should advance to the next grade, just like students in all other grades. In alignment with TEC, §28.021, criteria that should be considered include the following:

• The recommendation of the student's teacher,

• The student's grade in each subject or course, and

• Any other necessary academic information, as determined by the district.

Will my student be required to re-take any EOC that they miss due to all assessments being cancelled this year?
For students graduating in future years but taking one of the five courses with a corresponding STAAR EOC assessment this year, those students will not be responsible for meeting that EOC assessment graduation requirement if they earn course credit this year.
